The North American grass Sporobolus vaginiflorus (Torrey) Wood has been found for the first time in South Tyrol and the Central Alps, respectively. A short outline of the history of dispersal and a description of the species are given. This should help to draw attention to this newcomer to the flora of Central Europe.
